John and I spent a long weekend in San Miguel de Allende to celebrate his good friend from college’s wedding, and it was a magical time! We visited at the end of March, and could not have asked for more perfect weather. The journey there was a bit long, but once we arrived, it was all worth it. We had the perfect mix of free time to explore this charming city and enjoy the wedding events each night—a welcome party, a white party, and of course, the wedding day itself! I can’t recommend San Miguel enough for a weekend getaway with sunny weather, amazing food and drinks, and stunning views. It’s truly the perfect spot to relax and soak in the beauty of Mexico!

How to Get to San Miguel
The closest airports to San Miguel are Leon, Guanajuato, or Queretaro. Queretaro is the closest with it being a little less than an hour and a half drive away. There are no nonstop flights to Queretaro from NYC so we flew NYC to DFW then DFW to QRO. From there we arranged a driver to pick us up through our hotel. We felt extremely safe having the driver pick us up from the airport.
San Miguel de Allende Packing Inspo
The temps are hot but it cools down at night. Flowy dresses, sunglasses, and comfy sandals or heels are the perfect combo for exploring San Miguel! Make sure to pack a swimsuit and sunscreen as well as for lounging at the pool. Browse through below some of my favorite finds for San Miguel if looking for packing inspo!
Where to Stay for your Long Weekend in San Miguel
We stayed at the most stunning hotel and can’t recommend it enough for your long weekend in San Miguel de Allende. The location was perfect, the breakfast was charming and intimate, and the pool even had peacocks roaming around! The rooms were gorgeous and the bed was very comfy. This is the perfect hotel if looking for something a bit more intimate and quiet with a great location.

Day 1 in San Miguel: Arrivals, Check In, Luna Rooftop at The Rosewood, Welcome Party
Arrive in San Miguel de Allende after a long travel day! Coordinate an airport pickup through the hotel. Make sure to withdraw cash at the airport for tipping your driver. Check into your hotel and freshen up for the rest of your first day in San Miguel! For context, our flight landed at 2:15PM in Queretaro. By the time we cleared customs (aim to sit in front of plane to beat the line as it took us a long time to get through), met with our driver, and arrived at the hotel it was about 5PM. Factor in that there could be traffic as well for your drive from the airport to San Miguel upon arrival if peak rush hour.
Luna Rooftop at The Rosewood Hotel
Make a reservation for sunset food and drinks on the Luna Rooftop at The Rosewood Hotel. The hotel is stunning on its own and the views from the rooftop were gorgeous! When we arrived around 6P it wasn’t very crowded but got full in time for sunset around 6:40P.

We ordered some light bites and drinks and they hit the spot. It was the perfect way to kick off the long weekend in San Miguel, and the views were incredible!

After dinner, we headed to the welcome party at La Azotea, another great bar in the heart of San Miguel with views of the Parroquia from inside. This was a fun bar you can check out during your weekend in San Miguel or wander around to check out another bar in the city. Make sure to walk by the Parroquia at night as well to admire the famous San Miguel pink church lit up at night.

Day 2 in San Miguel: Hotel Breakfast, Pool Day, ‘The Restaurant’ Dinner, White Party
Start your morning with breakfast at the hotel in the most charming, intimate courtyard. This hit the spot and was so easy as just outside the room’s door!

Pool Day
Spend a relaxing afternoon lounging at the hotel pool. The sunny weather hit the spot after a long winter in NYC. The hotel servers also checked in on us frequently to provide drink services. We also couldn’t believe how many peacocks were around the pool – we were in awe seeing them so close up in person!

San Miguel Food Tour Alternatives
If you want to spend some time in San Miguel instead of relaxing at the pool, here are some food tour options you could look into which my family loves signing up for when exploring new cities! Sharing a ton of cafes as well further below that we hopped into on Day 3 and absolutely loved.
The Restaurant
After relaxing at the pool all day, freshen up for dinner at ‘The Restaurant‘. It was a gorgeous space right in the heart of San Miguel with a cute courtyard in the back. It was a great meal with a cozy, cute ambiance, however we honestly weren’t completely blown away by this spot.

As an alternative, a few other restaurants we had saved to try in San Miguel de Allende include: Spice Market, Antonia Bistro SMA, El Pegaso, La Posadita, Andanza-Casa de Sierra Nevada, and Tostévere.
White Party
We ended Day 2 at the white party hosted at the groom’s family hacienda. The venue was beautiful, and it was a great way to wrap up the night, surrounded by their family and friends in such a stunning setting.

There are plenty of bars around San Miguel that you can pop into at night or just soak in the energy of the city if looking to continue the night! Xoler was an adorable wine bar I had also saved as another option to wrap up Day 2.

Ki’bok Coffee SMA
10:30-11:30 AM: Start your morning with breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants of our long weekend in San Miguel de Allende: Ki’bok Coffee SMA. My cousin highly recommended this spot as well when they visited San Miguel so we knew we had to check it out. The rooftop is the perfect way to soak up the sunny weather and has a view of the Parroquia church and the food hit the spot!

Cumpanio
11:30-12 PM: Swing by Cumpanio for a freshly baked pastry treat and freshly squeezed juice. The interior is super cute with a full pastry shop next to the restaurant. Sit at the window seating for some great views to people watch on the street.

Iglesia de San Francisco
12-12:10 PM: Walk by the beautiful Iglesia de San Francisco and admire the 18th century church and architecture, built in the architectural style called churrigueresque. You do not need much time here but was pretty to walk by and admire the architecture.

Calle Pepe Llanos
12:10-12:15 PM: Sharing this spot as was pretty street – ‘Calle Pepe Llanos’ to walk through with the flags and a view of the church in the background! Not a must-see, but it’s a pretty street to walk through.

Templo del Oratorio de San Felipe Neri
12:15-12:25 PM: Explore another beautiful church in San Miguel – Templo del Oratorio de San Felipe Neri. You don’t need much time here but was fun to walk around and admire the architecture and colors of the 17th century church.

Mercado Ignacio Ramirez
12:30-1 PM: Wander through the Mercado Ignacio Ramirez which is a very traditional Mexican market with endless stalls of souvenirs, food, and more. Make sure to have cash on hand as easier to buy items but some places can also take credit card but less guaranteed. We did not eat anything from here but other friends did and we all enjoyed wandering through everything.

Lavanda Café
1-2 PM: This cafe was another highlight of our long weekend in San Miguel. The rooftop was gorgeous and they had incredible lavender infused coffees and pastries. Highly recommend visiting Lavanda Café while in San Miguel – we wish we had more room for food as the chilaquiles looked delicious too!

Casa de los Soles
2-2:15 PM: Nearby Cafe Lavandá was another cool spot to explore in San Miguel – Casa de los Soles. I’ve never seen so many suns in my life! We loved exploring the rooms and main patio and snapping some pics of all the unique suns. It is also a hotel although the rooms don’t look as nice to me. Definitely a must see!

Jacques Cafe
2:15-2:40 PM: Continue strolling around San Miguel and pop into another adorable cafe for a smoothie – Jacques. It was quite warm so the cool smoothie hit the spot! They also had an adorable rooftop space to explore.

Right outside Jacques was a really pretty street where we also snapped a few pics.

Dress is old from & Other Stories – but linking another gorgeous blue maxi dress here!
Galeria Arte Sacro
2:40-2:45 PM: We stumbled upon this shop with some amazing mojigangas, the famous supersize paper mache puppets, a staple at many big events. These were so fun to see in person and so huge! It’s a small shop located on Relox st if you are struggling to find – search for it on Google Maps!

Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel
2:45-3 PM: A must visit in San Miguel – the stunning Paroquia and the most famous site in the city. Built in 1683, this pink church is incredible to see in person and the centerpoint of the city. You can see this church from many rooftops around the city. The interior is just as gorgeous pictured below.

Calle Aldama
3-3:10 PM: Make sure to stroll down Calle Aldama for some of the most Insta worthy views in San Miguel of the street and Parroquia in the background! There was even a man with the cutest donkey walking down the street for some photo opps. Definitely worth walking through for the photo lovers!

Evening Tour Options
Linking some evening tour options to explore if you do not have an event to attend at night!
Wedding at Casa Cien
4:30 PM-1 AM: We danced the night away at the most beautiful wedding at Casa Cien. The venue was stunning and they did such an incredible job paying attention to all the details.

This is the exact green dress I wore with the comfiest gold Amazon heels!
